macOS Golden Gate Announced With Performance Improvements, Smarter Siri, and Updated Spotlight
Today Apple announced macOS 27, officially called macOS Golden Gate. The update builds on Apple’s latest software direction with a refreshed Liquid Glass interface, expanded Apple Intelligence features, and several changes designed to make macOS feel more modern across supported Macs.
A key part of macOS Golden Gate is the continued evolution of Liquid Glass. Apple is refining the look with updated window shapes, cleaner menu bar icons, and more consistent toolbars across apps. Sidebars now extend all the way to the edge of the window, creating a more seamless layout that gives apps a broader and more polished appearance.
Mac users will also be able to adjust how strong the Liquid Glass effect appears. A new opacity slider allows the interface to shift between a more transparent glass-like look and a more tinted appearance. This gives users more flexibility, especially for those who prefer stronger contrast or a less translucent design.
Apple Intelligence is also getting a larger role in macOS Golden Gate. Siri is gaining new capabilities centered around personal context and on-screen awareness, allowing it to better understand what a user is looking at and what they may need help with. These improvements also extend into Spotlight, which now features a new “Search or Ask” experience powered by the updated Siri system.
Apple is also updating child safety features across macOS and its other platforms, continuing its focus on family protections and safer communication tools.
macOS Golden Gate will support Apple silicon Macs, including MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models from 2020 and later, iMac models from 2021 and later, Mac mini models from 2020 and later, Mac Studio models from 2022 and later, and Mac Pro models from 2023 and later. Apple also lists the new MacBook Neo as compatible with the release.
