iPad 10th generation review: new features for a bigger price tag

Apple has completely redesigned the 10th generation iPad and has added a number of features which makes the new iPad a competitive option on the market when choosing a new tablet.

Some of the new features on the new iPad is the new design with slim bezels, flat edges, and the removal of the home button. There's also a new 10.9 inch display and new fun color options like the iPad Air and iPad mini. Other features on iPad include support for WiFi 6, landscape front facing camera, Touch ID on power button, USB-C port, and support for 5G. It's all powered by the A14 Bionic chip which makes this update a giant leap for the iPad.

The A14 Bionic chip isn't as great as the M1 chip and M2 chip on the iPad Pro and iPad Air but will get the job done for iPad users. One downside to this though is that iPad users will not be able to use Stage Manager on iPadOS 16 since it only works with the 2018 iPad Pro and later, or iPad Air with the M1 chip.

The display on the new iPad is now 10.9-inches which makes it the same as the iPad Air but it isn't laminated and also lacks support for P3 wide color. It's the worst display in the iPad lineup.

The new Magic Keyboard Folio is a new accessory specifically designed for iPad which allows you to detach the keyboard and use your iPad in handheld mode which the Magic Keyboard Case for iPad Pro and iPad Air lack. It also features a bigger trackpad and has function keys.

The new iPad has a 12MP rear camera and has a new landscape front facing camera which is the first iPad to feature one in the lineup. The rear camera could also shoot 4K video which wasn't possible with the previous generation.

Unfortunately the iPad still doesn't support the 2nd generation Apple Pencil and now has an adapter that you have to use to charge the 1st generation Apple Pencil since the port is now USB-C. It's more preferable to use the 2nd generation Apple Pencil over the first since it has a much better design and many more features, it also magnetically attaches to the side of your iPad for charging which makes it more convenient than having to plug it in to your iPad's lightning port.

We think the new iPad is a great option for buyers who want to experience iPad for the first time but we also think the price tag isn't worth what you're getting from Apple since the iPad Air has more features for $150 more. If the price still remained at $329 we could've recommended it as a perfect buy, but since the price is now $449 it's hard to say if the iPad 10th generation is really a good buy for users.
