Despite the recent debut of the Vision Pro, Apple's innovation extends beyond just that. A fresh report from The Information unveils Apple's exploration into foldable iPhones and iPads, with the company reportedly experimenting with "at least two" iPhone prototypes that fold horizontally.

However, the prospect of a foldable iPhone hitting the market seems distant, as The Information indicates that it's not on Apple's mass production agenda for 2024 or 2025. Challenges persist, particularly regarding durability, with engineers grappling over designs prone to breakage due to the external display configuration desired by Apple.

Moreover, engineers aim to preserve the svelte profile of current iPhone models in a foldable format, yet confront hurdles concerning battery size and display components. Apple has initiated discussions with an Asian manufacturer for sourcing parts for these foldable iPhones, exploring diverse size configurations.

Meanwhile, progress continues on Apple's long-discussed folding iPad project. The Information discloses Apple's pursuit of a folding tablet akin to the iPad Mini, boasting an eight-inch display. Engineers are focused on mitigating the crease at the display center and devising a hinge mechanism enabling a seamless, flat layout when unfolded.

As for the timeline, the release of a folding iPad remains uncertain, though The Elec's recent report hints at a potential debut of a seven- or eight-inch device by 2026 or 2027. Apple's endeavors in the foldable arena underscore its commitment to pushing technological boundaries, albeit with meticulous attention to overcoming inherent challenges.
