Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17. Positioned at $799, it introduces technologies previously reserved for Pro models, signaling a shift in how Apple defines its mainstream iPhone.

The screen is one of the biggest stories this year. At 6.3 inches, it’s larger than before and powered by a new generation of Super Retina XDR technology. ProMotion finally arrives on a non-Pro iPhone, allowing refresh rates up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling and gameplay.

The panel can also scale down to 1Hz, enabling an Always-On display that keeps widgets, notifications, and Live Activities visible at all times without draining the battery. Apple’s new Ceramic Shield 2 glass boosts scratch resistance while cutting glare, with outdoor brightness levels hitting a record 3,000 nits.

Photography takes a leap with the introduction of Apple’s first square front-facing sensor. Dubbed Center Stage, it shoots at 18MP and automatically shifts perspective to capture more people in group selfies or to stabilize video without extra effort. The rear system has also been fully upgraded, now using 48MP sensors across all lenses. The Ultra Wide camera captures sharper detail and enables improved macro shots, while the main camera’s built-in 2x Telephoto lens delivers optical-quality zoom without adding bulk.

Powering all of this is the A19 chip, built on a refined 3-nanometer process. The six-core CPU and advanced GPU push speeds well beyond earlier models, while AI accelerators woven into the architecture support Apple’s latest on-device intelligence features. Combined with iOS 26’s Adaptive Power Mode, battery life now stretches to 30 hours of video playback. Fast charging has been improved as well, with 50 percent capacity reached in just 20 minutes.

Connectivity also enters new territory. Apple’s custom N1 chip enables Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support, strengthening everything from gaming to smart home integration. Storage doubles at the entry tier, with the base iPhone 17 starting at 256GB. Five finishes, black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white, round out the lineup.

Apple has also refreshed its accessories, including a recycled-yarn crossbody strap designed to pair with the new TechWoven cases. Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 open September 12, with launch scheduled for September 19.
