At the Wall Street Journal's event, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Greg Jozwiak, said that Apple respects the EU's decision to require USB-C on all consumer electronic products and said "We'll have to comply".
This has been rumored for a while now and since the EU has madated it the iPhone 15 or new 2023 iPhone models will feature the new USB-C port along with many of Apple's accessories which still don't have the port.
USB-C on iPhone might also be short lived compared to the Lightning port since Apple is aiming for a port less future, but when that will happen is unclear.
