A closer look at Philips Hue Secure to advance security at your home

Philips Hue has stepped into the smart home security arena with the recent launch of Philips Hue Secure, now available for consumers seeking a DIY security solution. Crafted to seamlessly integrate with the existing Philips Hue smart lighting system, this security lineup includes a wired indoor/outdoor camera, a battery-powered indoor/outdoor camera, a vibrant full-color floodlight camera, and newly introduced contact sensors tailored for doors and windows.

While the technical specifications may not revolutionize the market, the standout features of end-to-end encryption and smooth integration with the Philips Hue lighting system add a layer of sophistication. However, it's essential to note that these security cameras do come with a more premium price tag, positioning them as a high-end option in the smart security camera landscape.

These cameras boast Wi-Fi connectivity, deliver 1080p video quality, facilitate two-way communication, offer intelligent alerts for people, pets, and vehicles, and come equipped with a built-in siren. Their functionality extends beyond security duties, doubling as motion sensors for both the security system and Hue lights during non-security periods.

Despite their advanced features, Philips Hue Secure currently lacks compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Home at launch. The team is actively working on enabling live footage viewing on these platforms in the near future. Regrettably, immediate support for Apple Home is absent, and users must subscribe, paying $3.99 per month or $39.99 annually per camera, to access recorded footage. Looking ahead, Philips Hue plans to introduce Matter support to its bridge, ensuring compatibility with the new contact sensors and potentially expanding support to motion sensors on Matter-compatible platforms.

Philips Hue Secure presents an enticing option for consumers seeking an elevated home security experience within the Philips Hue ecosystem. Despite the higher price point and some platform limitations, the integration of advanced features may position these devices as a premium choice for those prioritizing security and seamless connectivity.
