You can now scan your palm to pay at Whole Foods, Panera Bread, and other locations with the Amazon One app

Today, Amazon unveiled its latest innovation, the Amazon One app, designed to revolutionize the purchasing experience by enabling customers to make device-free transactions using palm scanning technology.

Available at various locations including Whole Foods, Panera Bread, and over 150 other venues like stadiums and airports, this app streamlines the checkout process.

Unlike before, where sign-ups for Amazon One were limited to physical locations with specific devices, the app now allows users to create profiles, capture palm images, and add payment methods conveniently from their smartphones. However, initial registration still necessitates interaction with an Amazon One machine.

The versatility of Amazon One extends beyond just payments, serving purposes like venue entry, age verification, and loyalty program participation. Powered by generative AI, the system matches palm images captured by smartphones with near-infrared imagery from Amazon One scanners, boasting an impressive 99.99% accuracy rate.

To ensure privacy and security, palm images are encrypted and transmitted to a secure Amazon One domain in the AWS cloud.

Amazon emphasizes the convenience for both consumers and businesses, highlighting frequent usage at Whole Foods. The app is available for free download on the App Store.
