Apple is positioning the Vision Pro for serious gaming with upcoming support for PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, arriving later this year with visionOS 26. The move, confirmed during WWDC 2025, marks a turning point in Apple’s ambitions for spatial computing — expanding the headset’s input capabilities beyond eye and hand tracking to include industry-standard game controls.

The addition of Sony’s precision hardware brings six degrees of freedom tracking, haptic feedback, and finger-touch detection to the Vision Pro platform. This enables developers to build more immersive, responsive VR experiences that rival those on Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2 — both of which currently dominate high-end consumer VR.

While Vision Pro launched primarily as a productivity and entertainment device, the integration of motion controllers opens the door to a new category of VR-first titles, including potential ports of popular action, adventure, and simulation games. For developers, it also provides a more familiar input method for building interactive 3D environments and complex spatial gameplay.

The update is expected with the release of visionOS 26 this fall, as Apple continues to broaden the Vision Pro’s capabilities and appeal beyond its productivity-focused roots. With this step, the company signals its intent to compete more directly in the premium VR gaming space.
